Group Classes

Cognit Canines offers a variety of group classes held at Berkshire College of Agriculture, Mortimer West End Village Hall and Padworth Village Hall. Please see below a breakdown of the classes we currently offer. The Puppy, Bronze and Rally'O are courses whilst the Ringcraft group is pay as you go.

As Cognit Canines holds Kennel Club Listed Status, we abide by a strict code of ethics to deliver the best training and education for owners. We are able to offer the Kennel Club Puppy Assessment, Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

Kennel Club Puppy Assessment Course

The Kennel Club Puppy Assessment course aims to provide a means of socialising puppies and to lay down a foundation for education and training. On successful completion of the course puppies will respond to their handlers and the handlers will have an awareness of the responsibilities of dog ownership. The inclusion of play exercises adds an extra dimension to a dog’s life and can be used to make training fun. Constructive play and suitable incentives are encouraged within this puppy training programme.

This course is perfect for puppies who have had their vaccines up to 6 months

This is a 6 week course that is aimed at starting off on the best paws possible, we cover all basic cues, recall, stays, vet practice trips, lead walking and sensory exploring.

The next Puppy Foundation will take place in October (last one of the year with Cognit Canines) - please message for more details and to prebook a spot

Kennel Club Good Citizen Silver Award

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Silver Award aims to build upon the skills learned in the Bronze Award whilst increasing the level of difficulty. The Silver Award is a natural progression of practical dog
training skills and introduces new concepts such as the controlled greeting, road walk and vehicle control exercises which are important in everyday life situations. The Silver Award aims to provide handlers with a good knowledge of understanding and training their canine companion.

This is a 8 week course that aims to build upon all the skills learnt in the Bronze and more inline with KC Silver Standard.

Please note, if you are looking for a class where dogs will be off lead and interacting - this is not the class for you. My classes are designed around you and your dog's interaction as a partnership rather than a socialisation session. The other dogs in the class act as a distraction and should build towards the focus between dog and handler.

All dogs must have passed their Bronze award either with Cognit Canines or another dog training club. You will be asked to supply your certificate if you passed your bronze with another club or at a show.

*Our next Silver will start on Friday 23rd February 2024 8-9pm at Padworth Village Hall*

Exam date is Monday 8th April 2024 for this course

Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bronze Award aims to produce a dog that will walk and behave in a controlled manner on the lead, will stay in one position on command, will allow its owner to clean, groom and inspect it, a dog that will walk and behave in a happy natural manner, under control of the lead. The dog must come to hand when called. The Bronze award aims to provide the handlers with a basic knowledge of understanding and training their canine companion.

This is a 8 week course that is aimed to build upon basic training cues, we cover recall, stays, reinforcing calm behaviours around people and other dogs , loose lead walking and much more.

Please note, if you are looking for a class where dogs will be off lead and interacting - this is not the class for you. My classes are designed around you and your dog's interaction as a partnership rather than a socialisation session. The other dogs in the class act as a distraction and should build towards the focus between dog and handler.

This course is perfect for dogs ages over 6 months looking to improve their training.

Next Bronze date is Monday 26th August - we have 1 space left so please email for  more details

Kennel Club Good Citizen Gold Award

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Gold Award is the highest level of achievement of the Scheme. It builds upon the skills learnt in the Silver Award and develops more advanced training skills of the dog and handler. The Gold Award is a natural progression of practical dog training skills and introduces new concepts such as relaxed settle, stop the dog and send the dog to bed exercises, which are important in every day life situations. The Gold Award aims to provide handlers with a greater knowledge and understanding of their
canine companion. Dogs that are awarded a Gold Certificate should reach the required standards in all exercises and be a worthy representative of the Scheme’s highest standard. Where possible it is preferable that certain exercises are tested at indoor and outdoor locations.

This is a 8 week course that aims to train the highest standards set out by the Kennel Club Good Citizen awards. With more difficult exercises such as off lead heelwork and send aways, this course begins to merge into some competive obedience style exercies. After completing this course you can venture into Rally or the Pre Beginners obedience stakes.

Rally O Training

Rally’O is a new and exciting sport that originally came from America and has taken the UK by storm. Due to the sport's unique way of competing it is becoming a popular sport, unlike normal competitions where you are competing against each other, you are only competing against yourself to obtain the perfect score. There are 6 levels all in all where you need to achieve 3 perfect scores in order to move up a level. Rally O works as a course which is broken up by stations, at each station there will be an obedience task for the handler and the dog to compete.

This is the perfect sport for any dog and handler looking for something to do with their companion.

Cognit Canines is offering a 3 hour workshop at Padworth Village Hall on Saturday 26th August starting at 9.30am. This workshop covers Level 1 and 2 with a mini competition at the end!

The workshop is £60 per person.
